Michael Pegues Becomes New QCAACC Board Chairman Succeeding Long Serving Sherman Jenkins
The Quad County African American Chamber of Commerce (QCAACC) in March of this year transitioned to a new board chairman succeeding long-time Chairman Sherman Jenkins. Board Vice President Michael Pegues was appointed and fellow board member Sandra Harrison of DVA Training became Vice President.
"I am honored that the board saw fit to allow me to succeed Mr. Jenkins," Mr. Pegues said. " Over the past 4 years, he has mentored me to take the reins. The QCAACC is grateful to Mr. Jenkins and the other co-founders in creating and keeping the Chamber viable to the Quad County area."
Mr. Pegues, appointed by Mayor Richard C. Irvin, became the first-ever African American Chief Information Officer for the City of Aurora, Illinois in June 2017. He began his career in various IT support roles for AT&T and PepsiCo in the Greater Chicago Area. He later worked as a civilian Automation Management Officer for the US Department of Defense at the US Army Logistical Readiness Canter in Vicenza, Italy. Additionally, Mr. Pegues held senior IT positions at Hewlett-Packard France, Vodafone Hungary, and Morgan Stanley in Budapest, Hungary, and New York, New York. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from DeVry University and an Executive MBA in Global Executive Management from Central European University Business School in Vienna, Austria.
Mr. Pegues, a proud US Army Veteran, actively participated in Operation Provide Comfort—a military operation initiated by the United States and other Coalition nations during the Gulf War. Starting in April 1991, the mission aimed to defend Kurds who were fleeing their homes in northern Iraq after the Gulf War and deliver humanitarian aid to them.
Mr. Pegues resides in Aurora, IL. and is married to Brigitta Pegues-Takacs and has three teenager children.
